IC Information
Canon: Genshin Impact
Character: Kaeya
Canon point: Up to 3.8
Canon intensity: Genshin Impact’s canon intensity is usually quite light-hearted for the most part, but the story isn’t afraid to get involved in darker topic in its side quests and even in the main storyline. That being said, Kaeya’s main themes he’s tied to are not as dark as they could be in terms of the entire story. There is links to a massacre of a people and being a descendant of a survivor of said event. He also struggles with torn loyalty and the consequences of choosing between biological family and the found family he was raised by, with all the moral and mental struggles that may come with it including a type of identity crisis.
World information: Genshin’s worldbuiling a high fantasy story that has some aspects of mechanical steampunk and ancient technology in the far corners of the story, but mostly deals with magic. The world of Teyvat has a various amount of technology types, but for this app there will be a focus on three aspects.
The world as it is now is ruled by Seven Archons that each hold power over an aspect and one of seven elements. They are known to have ties to an even greater power known as Celestia through an object known as a Gnosis.
Each nation is ruled by one of these gods and has shaped a particular nation. Some beings are able to be granted a vision, a special item that allows them to use the powers of one of the seven elements. These are considered rare and noteworthy, as they are granted to only a minority of people. This is usually linked to some kind of ambition and can grant the user certain additional benefits, depending on the kind of person they are.
Khaenri'ah is an outlier to this. Khaenri’ah is a nation that did not have any god that they worshipped being the only nation to run on its own. It made several alchemical feats and engineering feats and were said to show the strength of humanity. However, 500 years before the game, Khaenri’ah was at war with the archons themselves and were destroyed in an event that shocked the world called the Cataclysm. Negative events happened to all of Teyvat during this time. Kharni’ah’s people are basically gone, with their civilization only ruins and their surviving machines left to show they even existed. Those who are left are sinners, cursed in some way.
As a final minor thing on Kaeya's personal story, he tends to use alcohol as a coping mechanism.
Character biofacts:
Kaeya is a human man in his early twenties, around 24 given the estimations. Kaeya has a rather althetic build, around 5’10 in height. He is notable for the one eyepatch on his right eye, which sports burn scars underneath. He has some cuts, both from swords and from burns, on his torso, thanks to both his backstory and his work. Overall, he is in good medical condition.
About the character: Kaeya is a rarity; Kaeya is an uncursed Kharnari’ahn. Kaeya was told by his father little bits about his people and was no doubt put through talk of enemies and horrible archons, but wasn’t given a solid link to his origins. Early into his childhood, Kaeya was abandoned by his father in a rainstorm, not due to neglect but a plan to have Kaeya be a spy in order to one day be able to use information about Mondstadt to help the people. Crepus Ragnvindr ‘happened’ to find the boy on the side of the road and took him in.
Kaeya did go off to discover more about Khaenri’ah via sneaking onto one of the ships and trying to explore Sumeru due to it being a neighouring country, which lead to him being taken back to Mondstadt.
Kaeya, being rather young at the time, struggled quite a bit to settle in at first and very much didn’t expect what he later learned to be a nobleman to take him in. The struggle between the cultures was hard for him, but Crepus’ son (Diluc) always stuck by him and helped him adjust quite a bit. Soon he and Diluc were akin to twins as they grew up and were raised together, eventually both becoming knights. Worrying thoughts still brewed in his head, now that he cared about the people of Mondstadt, on if a war broke out who he would fight for.
Upon Diluc’s eighteenth birthday, their father was killed by a drake. This caused Kaeya to think how his decision that had been plaguing him reared its ugly head. It caused a great deal of stress and guilt at the thought of being relieved for a moment that his foster father had died. This struggle and finally a decision that he should be mourning like his brother prompted him to finally discuss with the person closest to him about his secret.
This sadly would not end happily, as Diluc lashed out after being given the truth. Diluc, having a pryo vision, did injure Kaeya’s right eye. As irony would have it, Kaeya is gifted a vision that would allow him to survive the fight, Kaeya considered the vision a symbol that he should never utter the truth every again about himself. Diluc later leaves, and Kaeya eventually gains a position as Calvary Captain and Quartermaster in his young adult life.
This being said, Kaeya is very much a man who lives with multiple masks. He chooses to keep a confident and charming personality. He often chooses whatever means is required in order to get what he needs through strategical thinking, willing to risk or trick people in order to ensure his plans work. Much of Kaeya’s poking and prodding of people is to see where people truly lie, keeping a more guarded approach as he assesses them. His overthinking and calculation does cause him to be lead into more risk-taking behaviour. However, he does take his work seriously and, even with his more trickier methods, has a particular dislike for anyone who threatens families. He can be seemingly quite relaxed and confident, a bravado he wears well. However, there’s a great deal of overthinking and pressure he puts on himself, still torn between whether he should fight for Khaenri’ah or Monstadt. Kaeya, all in all, tries to make himself more complicated of a personality than he actually is. Overall, he is someone who overthinks due to believing that he can’t trust anyone fully, but underneath is plagued by the detachment of people around him and the loneliness that follows that. He makes himself appear to be much more adjusted and confident in himself when in reality he is a person torn by indecision and stressed. He both wants connection but feels he’s unable to, clamming up using his own masks in order to hide his weaknesses.
Abilities: Kaeya is a Calvary Captain, making him a capable swordsman and leader. He is skilled in swordsmanship, having been trained in it for several years. He is used to travelling on both horseback and on foot, so he is someone who is rather fit.
He is known very well for using masks and trickery. Kaeya is more likely to try to trick his enemies than outright fight them immediately. He’s more of a planner than he is anything else, but he isn’t omniscient by any means. In fact, when there’s a good enough gamble, he will be reckless for the sake of getting a better deal out of it.
Kaeya’s most complicated ability happens to be his vision. Kaeya is able to summon large ice crystals and barriers. However, this ice is regular (albeit big ice). Kaeya has the ability to make these summoned ice float and use as a projectile, but only for a short time. Kaeya mainly is able to work on the defensive than offensive, mainly his attacks being more unrefined. When push comes to shove, Kaeya’s main specialty is defensive, being able to heal minor wounds on himself only and shields.
Noteworthy items: Eyepatch, cryo vision, and sword.
Mixed gender room ok?: Yes
Player content notes/squicks: I’m usually pretty good on squicks, but that can be like shooting fish in a barrel. I also am aware of what I am getting myself into, so the warn list I have seen I am fully okay with. I will notify if anything squicks me out.
Anything else: Really excited to be here, let me know if I need any revisions!
